The Blanket Stitch

The blanket stitch is a stitch with a lot of texture, and it’s incredibly easy to work! I love using this stitch for soft, squishy blankets with wonderful drape.

This stitch is reversible, so it looks fantastic (and identical) on both sides.

Below you’ll find the written instructions for this stitch, as well as a link to a tutorial video in case you prefer to learn visually!

HOW TO CROCHET THE BLANKET STITCH:

First, create your foundation chain in a multiple of 3

Row 1: In 3rd chain from hook, work 2 dcs. * Skip 2 chains, and in the next chain work a sc and 2 dc. Repeat from * across to end of row. When you have 3 chains remaining, skip two and work 1 sc in the last chain.

Row 2: Chain 2, turn. Work 2 dcs in the 1st stitch (the last sc you made in the row below). * Skip 2 stitches (the 2 dcs from the row below), and in the next stitch work 1 sc and 2 dc. Repeat from * across to end of the row. When you reach the last stitch of the row, work just 1 sc in it.

Repeat row 2 for the remainder of the project!

Note: Above I’ve abbreviated single crochet as “sc”, and double crochet as “dc”

I hope you enjoy creating beautiful things with the simple, lovely blanket stitch!
