The Sedge Stitch
I really love the sedge stitch! It’s beginner friendly, is an easy to remember 1 row repeat, has wonderful drape and texture but also (in my opinion) has just enough variety to not get overly tedious or boring.
Crocheting is my time to relax and unwind, so I really value stitches and projects that are beautiful, fun, and allow me to listen to an audiobook while I stitch away!
I love this stitch for both blankets and wash/dishcloths, but it makes a fabric that would be lovely for so many projects!
If you’d like to make a project using this stitch, check out my free Blue Hues Modern Thrown pattern here.
Without further ado, here are the written instructions for this beautiful stitch!
HOW TO CROCHET THE SEDGE STITCH:
First, create your foundation chain in a multiple of 3
Row 1: In 2nd chain from hook, work a hdc and dc. * Skip 2 chains. In the next chain, work a sc, hdc, and dc. Repeat from the * until you have one chain remaining. Work 1 sc in the last chain.
Row 2: Chain 2, turn. In the first stitch, work a hdc and dc. Skip 2 stitches. In the next stitch, work a sc, hdc and dc. Repeat from * until you have 2 stitches left. Skip one stitch and work a sc in the last stitch.
Repeat row 2 for the remainder of the project!
Note: Above I’ve abbreviated single crochet as “sc”, half double crochet as “hdc” and double crochet as “dc”
