The Long Wave Stitch

I really love working with the Long Wave stitch! It’s a four-row repeat, but two of those rows are just easy-peasy rows of single crochet! This is a stitch that’s repetitive enough to still be relaxing, but has enough variety to keep things fun.

To complete the Long Wave stitch, you’ll need to know how to:
Single Crochet
Half Double Crochet
Double Crochet
Treble Crochet

If you need a refresher on any of these stitches, or just need a little extra help, check out my tutorial video (link below) on YouTube to follow along with me there!

This stitch would look so nice in a variety of yarn weights, but you may want to use two (or more) colors to really show this stitch pattern off to its best advantage! And without further ado, the written instructions!

How To Crochet The Long Wave Stitch:

Create a foundation chain of any length you desire, in a multiple of 14 + 2.

Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from your hook, and in the next chain. *Work a half double crochet in each of the next two chains, a double crochet in each of the next two chains, and a treble crochet in each of the next three chains. Work a double crochet in each of the next two chains, a half double crochet in each of the next two chains, and a single crochet in each of the next three chains.
Repeat again from the asterisk (the bold text) across to the end of the row, where you will end with just two single crochets.

Row 2: Chain 1, and turn your work. Work a single crochet in the first stitch, and in each stitch across to the end of the row. When working your last single crochet of the row, work it as follows: Insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and grab your new yarn color, and pull that new color through the loops on your hook. Continue on with your new color for row 3.

Row 3: Chain 3, which counts as the first treble crochet of the row, and turn your work. Skip the first stitch, and the next work another treble crochet. Work a double crochet in each of the next two stitches, a *half double crochet in each of the next two stitches, and a single crochet in each of the next three stitches. Work a half double crochet in each of the next two stitches, a double crochet in each of the next two stitches, and a treble crochet in each of the next three stitches.
Repeat again from the asterisk (the body text) across to the end of your row, where you will end with just two treble crochets.

Row 4: Chain 1, and turn your work. Work a single crochet in the first stitch, and in each stitch across to the end of the row. When working your last single crochet of the row, work it as follows: Insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and grab your new yarn color, and pull that new color through the loops on your hook. Continue on with your new color for row 1.

Repeat rows 1-4, ending with a row 2 or row 4 (single crochet row).

Note: When repeating row 1, you’ll be working into stitches instead of into the chain. So when you start your row, you’ll chain 1, turn, and work your starting 2 single crochets right into the first two stitches of the row!

So much fun!
I hope you enjoyed learning the Long Wave stitch with me!
