2 Cute Crochet Washcloth Patterns

These 2 washcloths are just 2 cute! Below you’ll find the written instructions for how to complete these two washcloths using your favorite cotton yarns. Both patterns are beginner friendly, and I’ll also include some instructions for adding on a border, if you’d like to add one to your project.
Below you’ll also find a link to the YouTube video for both of these patterns (there’s one video that features them both), so feel free to follow along with me there if you need a little help along the way.
The first washcloth features the oh-so-lovely Linen Stitch! This stitch creates a beautiful, flat fabric that I think looks especially great in multiple colors or variegated yarn to show off the stitches.
The second washcloth uses the beautiful Suzette Stitch, and has wonderful softness and drape! I prefer the Suzette Stitch in solid, light colors to show off the stitch details best.
Make sure to choose yarn that YOU love! I’ve found that no matter how my projects turn out, I never love them if I don’t love the yarn I’m using to begin with.
Below, along with the patterns for these two cloths, you’ll also find some instructions for adjusting the size in case you’d like to make a dishcloth, hand towel, or something totally different using these stitches.

Linen Stitch Washcloth Pattern

Use your favorite cotton yarn!
I used Peaches & Creme Stripey in the color Beach House and needed 1 ball to complete both the cloth and border
Hook: I / 5.5mm (you can buy find my favorite I hook here)
Dimensions:
Finished Washcloth Dimensions: 10” x 10'“
To Adjust the Size:
For this pattern, we begin with a foundation chain in a multiple of 2. Add more chains to the desired width of your project, as long as the total number is a multiple of 2. To add length to your project, simply crochet more rows before finishing off.
A Note Before You Begin:
We all crochet with slightly different tension - so the total number of rows needed to complete your project might be different from mine, and that’s okay! I recommend measuring your washcloth’s width once you’re a few rows in, and using that measurement to know when to stop adding rows to the length. That way, you’ll make sure your finished cloth is a perfect square!

ch(s) = Chain(s)
sk = Skip
st(s) = Stitch(es)
sc = Single Crochet
Crocheted Linen Stitch Washcloths With Linen Stitch Borders
Chain 38 (or any multiple of 2 to adjust size)
Row 1: Sc in 4th chain from hook. Ch 1, sk one ch, sc in the next ch. Repeat from * to end of row 1.
Rows 2-37: Ch 2, turn. Sc in the first chain 1 space. *Ch 1, sk 1 sc and work 1 sc in the next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across to end of row. End row by working 1 last sc between the last sc and the turning chain from the row below.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Linen Stitch Border Instructions: Use a slip stitch to attach to the edge of your washcloth under one of the chain 1 spaces created during your last row made while crocheting the cloth. Chain 1, and in that same space also work a single crochet. Chain one, and in the next chain 1 space, work a single crochet and chain 1. Continue along the edge. When you reach the corner, work a single crochet, chain 1, and another single crochet and chain 1. Continue working the linen stitch around all sides of the washcloth.
When you reach the end of the round, you can slip stitch to the first single crochet you made and fasten off there. I added three rows of linen stitch to my washcloth. To continue, slip stitch to the first single crochet of the previous round, chain 1, and continue working the linen stitch around your border. For subsequent corners, I did not add any additional stitches but simply worked the linen stitch in the same way that I had for the washcloth body. Refer to the tutorial video if you need a little help (there are timestamps to help you find just the border portion of the video, if needed).

The Suzette Stitch washcloth with a cute, scalloped border is as functional as it is gorgeous.
Chain 32 (or any multiple of 2, to adjust size)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in same ch. *Sk 1 ch, sc and dc in the next ch. Repeat from (*) to end of the row, working just 1 sc in the last ch.
Rows 2-34: Ch 1, turn. In the first st, work a sc and a dc. *Sk 1 st, sc and dc in the next st. Repeat from (*) to end of row.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Easy Scallop Border Instructions: Use a slip stitch to attach to the edge of your washcloth in one of the double crochet stitches from the last row worked. Chain 1, and in that same stitch work a single crochet, double crochet, and a single crochet (all three in the same space). Skip a stitch, and in the next work those three stitches again - single crochet, double crochet, single crochet. (The varying stitch heights from single to double and back again will create an adorable little scallop). Repeat around project.
