Herringbone Half Double Crochet

The Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch is simple, and so beautiful! It creates a very low profile fabric, and is one of my favorite stitches to use for making scarves (especially when paired with a simple, solid colored yarn). This stitch would be suitable for a variety of fun projects and yarn types. There’s no special multiple to keep in mind (you can begin with any number of chains you’d like), so it’s super easy to adjust to get the exact size you need for your project.

Here are the written instructions for the “hhdc” stitch! (And yes - that’s it’s official abbreviation!

HOW TO CROCHET THE HERRINGBONE HALF DOUBLE CROCHET STITCH:

Abbreviations:
hhdc = herringbone half double crochet
ch = chain
yo = yarn over

First, create your foundation chain (any multiple/number of chains will work!)

Row 1: Hhdc in 2nd ch from hook, and in every ch across to end of row. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Work hhdc stitch in 1st stitch, and in each stitch across to end of row. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat row 2 until project has reached desired length. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Instructions for the hhdc:
Yo, insert hook and pull up a loop (the same way you begin a half double crochet stitch), but also pull through the 1st loop on your hook. There will be two loops now remaining on your hook. Yo, pull through both remaining loops.
